**Rotary Reader
The Charleston-Breakfast Rotary Club teams weekly with teachers and students of Sanders-Clyde Elementary/Middle School, along with other schools, to increase literacy in the classroom.
The Rotary Club recently presented each third-grader with a dictionary.
The initiative started several years ago between Sanders-Clyde and the local Rotary Club.
The Rotary Reader Program is a reading-enrichment program.
The reader spends one morning in the classroom reading to a kindergarten, first- or second-grade class. As a result, children receive more one-on-one conversation with adults and see the enjoyment of reading.
Additionally, the Charleston-Breakfast Rotary Club recognizes and awards students monthly in grades one through five based upon reading achievement.
The intent is to link community leaders with schools so that the Rotarians continue their mission of ‘Service Above Self.’
