DISTRICT 7770 ROTARY FOUNDATION

ANNUAL GIVING UPDATE

PDG Kay Oldhouser Davis, Editor

April 2011

We are tracking close to where we were at this time last year so we definitely have the

opportunity to once again be a million dollar district if we finish strong. In order to do this,

it is essential that all year-end contributions get recorded for this Rotary year.

Historically, nearly half of all annual contributions to The Rotary Foundation are received

between April and June. Delays in processing money and recognitions already exist at the

Foundation, and the situation is only going to get worse as the end of the Rotary year

approaches. Many clubs have a tradition of waiting until mid-June – or later – to send in their

contributions for the year. If this is your club’s tradition, please think of May as the new

June and submit your contributions no later than the end of May and preferably even earlier.

This will allow the Foundation staff to credit and record your contributions sooner, acknowledge

donors in a more timely fashion, meet any year-end recognition event deadlines, and ensure you

have the opportunity to submit requests for adjustments and/or corrections before the end of the

Rotary year. This will be very important for clubs that are trying to earn the EREY and the

100% Sustaining Member Club banners for 2010-11.

Please ensure that all contributions are being sent to the following address:

The Rotary Foundation

14280 Collections Center Drive

Chicago, IL 60693

Thank you so much for your dedication and support of our Rotary Foundation. With your

continuing help, we can have the most successful year ever in our district. By supporting The

Rotary Foundation, we are Building Communities Bridging Continents.

Island; St. Andrews (Columbia); St. John’s Parish; Summerton; Summerville;

Summerville Evening & Walterboro.

If your club is not listed above, it is time to remind your club members that you need their help

in meeting these goals. Encourage and challenge them to reach the next level in Annual Giving.

Say to them:

“If not a Sustaining Member, please become one. If not a Paul Harris Fellow, please increase

your giving to become one. If not a Paul Harris Society Member, please see if your financial

assets will give you this special recognition.”

When Rotarians are asked to give, they will do so if their dollars will meet a humanitarian need

or support useful services. But they must be assured that their dollars will be managed honestly,

handled efficiently, and applied effectively. So, please remind club members that they can

entrust the Foundation with their dollars and that 100% of their gift will go to programs that

improve lives in their community and around the globe. Also, please remind club members

that one half of the gifts given to the Annual Programs Fund during 2010-11 will come

back to the district to use for District Simplified Grants, Matching Grants, etc. in 2013-14.

Please – Do what you can to bring the Every Rotarian, Every Year banner to your club by the

end of this Rotary year.

Please – Do what you can to make your club a 100% Sustaining Member Club this year.

TRF-DIRECT Makes Contributing Easier

There is an easy way for donors to contribute to The Rotary Foundation. By enrolling in TRF-

DIRECT, you can automatically transfer funds electronically to the Foundation from your

checking, savings, or credit card accounts.

Once enrolled, you can choose whether to give to the Annual Programs Fund (to support the

Every Rotarian, Every Year initiative) or PolioPlus (to support Rotary’s $200 Million

Challenge). You no longer need to remember when to make your contributions. All transactions

through TRF-DIRECT are secure and will eliminate the worry of checks getting lost in the mail.

One tax receipt is issued at the end of the calendar year for easy accounting. All contributions

count toward Paul Harris Fellow and Major Donor recognition. Annual Programs Fund

contributions count toward Sustaining Member recognition.

If you are interested in this program, the brochure is available for download from the Rotary

website, www.rotary.org, or you can contact Lou Mello (lou.mello@oocl.com) if you have

questions, need additional information, or want to use TRF-DIRECT to become a PHS member.
